The Glass Castle

In The Glass Castle the next chapter that I read started out with Jeannette telling the Readers that her mom and dad didn’t let her believe in Santa Claus. I find that really strange because the kids are so young and at that age your imagination is so much fun to have and Santa Claus is what pumps you up for the holidays. Jeannette’s mom and dads excuse for this weird reason was because they couldn’t afford expensive presents, and they didn’t want their kids to think that they weren’t as good as other kids, who on Christmas, found all sorts of fancy and expensive presents under their tree. So Jeannette’s parents spoiled the tale of Santa Claus and told them that everything wasn’t real. They told Jeannette that the so called Elves didn’t actually make or create the toys and told them that on all of the toys stood a label saying, “made in Japan”. This shows that Jeannette’s parents are very overprotective of their kids and that they want them to make them feel as good as they can when they really don’t. Jeannette’s parents seem very odd to me and I am concerned that later on in the book something really strange will happen to Jeannette because of her parents foolish actions.
