The Glass Castle post 1
So far The Glass Castle is very interesting and caught my attention immediately. Jeannette was raised in a southern Arizona town when she was three years old with her odd parents, her brother and her dog. The book starts out when she is old and she sees her mother searching through a dumpster for food which shows that her parents are struggling. Jeannette then meets with her mother to talk and to catch up with each other. This then leads to her remembering of when she was a child and what her life was like when she was living with her family. Her parents are very over protective of her which to me is a bad thing because this causing argument with others and arguments of what she can and cannot do which creates a tension between her parents and others. The next chapter begins with her making hot dogs at the age of three. But the oddest thing about this is that her parents aren’t even watching over her! Jeannette eventually catches on fire and is immediately sent to the hospital with serious burns. This again shows that she experienced a childhood full of hardships and I think this was only one of the many traumas that she would have to overcome.
